Reviews
The fish soup never fails, pretty consistent and nice, has fresh and dried peppercorn which gives it an interesting flavour. Yet to find another shop that comes close to this for the soup, the sides however are pretty lacking, nothing amazing and I'd stay away from most of them. The squid however was surprisingly good. Noodles, avoid. Yet to try the beef noodle and I can't remember if the beef slices were good or not. It's easily over 40 per pax with a few side dishes. At least 20 per pax if it's just fish. 4 stars cause the sides were disappointing.
1st time having Tai Er fish in Singapore. It was deliciously sour. Good amount of fish slices for 2 pax.
I find the 蒜泥白肉 is too oily and the seasoning is quite over powering. However, the cold squid dish is very appetizing and refreshing.
I also tried the 酸辣粉,which is good and also oily. Overall is still good for the sour fish dish.
Another dish - their white rice is super good 金银剔透, 粒粒分明。 Must order a bowl to go with the fish.
Staff were prompt in their service. Not too crowded on a Wed evening.
Complimentary roselle drink.
Initial taste of the spicy sour soup was appetitsing (sour taste from the vegetable). Sliced fish were fresh. However, I felt the soup wasn't as tasty after it cool down.
Delicious suan cai yu (sauerkraut fish soup) albeit a little greasy. The dish has a nice perfume from the Szechuan green peppercorn and looks very pretty garnished with bright yellow chrysanthemum petals.
The tender fish fillets in spicy and tart broth proved to be quite addictive.
Another highlight of dining in would be helping yourself to the free flow roselle flower and candied mandarin peel tea.
You can grab a mug and brew it at the hot water station yourself.
Ordering is done via QR code, though one gripe is that it's only available in Mandarin.
Staff were attentive and service was pleasant.
Portions are also generous so two persons can comfortably share the small sized dish.
Love the strong thick Chinese sauerkraut fish. One of my fav so far. Their sauerkraut is so good we usually finish all the vege.
Their pearl rice is said to be cooked with mineral water. It is the perfect plump rice. I need two bowls with the soup.
Generally I don’t prefer their sides due to the price. We would order the largest fish bowl and share. The spicy chicken was smaller than expected but delicious.
They also have free flow orange peel and roselle. You can put as much as you’d enjoy.
Will be back again!
Loved the fish. Perfect blend of spices mixed with the sour preserved vegetables and super fresh fish. The restaurant is staffed by very well trained servers. Loved the complimentary (orange peel tea)…unlimited and self service.
Staff are friendly and prompt in attending to the patrons. Food quality is consistently good. The fish is tender and soup within which the meat was in was flavourful while not being overly spicy.
Not many people play the code game with staff to win a side dish, but it was a fun moment which one should try. Just use WeChat and follow the instructions given, and you earned yourself a prawn + cucumber appetiser (dish is subjected to change).
Overall, a conducive place for a hearty meal.
I have to say they have very clever ID concept that make the restaurant very intimate and also fantastic lighting for food shots. First time eating here and very impress with the energetic vibes in the outlet.
Ordered their signature sauerkraut fish, not sure if it’s comparable to other Chinese eateries as I’m not the die hard fans of this dish but its good enough for me to go for 2nd helping.
It helps when u go as a bigger group as we can try more appetizers. However servings for these are not big, so I find the price a bit on the high side especially the beef noodle. At $10 a pop here, Le Nu seems really value for money then.
Oh but they serve one of the best cooked rice I have ever eaten. Something so simple but not always done well in Chinese eateries!
Overall a good dining experience though.
